Roscommon County Council has closed the bottle bank at Tarmonbarry as a result of contamination.
The local authority has shared pictures of newspapers and used medicines mixed into non-glass waste.
The Council is urging people to use alternative waste facilities and to also segregate waste when recycling bottles and cans.
