The Taoiseach has paid tribute to former Fianna Fáil TD and Co Roscommon resident Seán Sherwin. He died peacefully at his home in Rooskey yesterday, while aged in his late 70s. Seán Sherwin was a TD in Dublin in the 1970s and was Fianna Fáil's national organiser in the past. His remains will repose at Stafford's Funeral Home in Ballyfermot, Dublin, from 3 o'clock to 5 o'clock on Saturday. His funeral Mass is taking place in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Ballyfermot, on Monday at 11.30.
In the Statement issued this evening, Taoiseach and Fianna Fail Party President, Micheál Martin, described the former TD as a good friend and a party institution. He stated that Seán was known by generations of party members in every constituency, and was a strong source of encouragement and mentorship. Even after retirement, the Taoiseach said that Seán continued his service to the party and was a regular source of advice and insight. He concluded the statement by offering his sympathy to Seán's family, his daughter Liz, and sons John and Marc, along with his grandchildren and wider family.
