Students' Union says blanket ban on phones isn't feasible

The Education Minister has confirmed she wants to look at a ban in post-primary for the entire school day, including lunch breaks.

A blanket ban on mobile phone use in Secondary Schools is not feasible according to local ISSU rep. The Irish Second Level Student's Union represent over 600 schools nationwide and have been reacting to the plans unveiled yesterday by Minister Norma Foley. The Education Minister has confirmed she wants to look at a ban in post-primary for the entire school day, including lunch breaks. It's understood Norma Foley will now write to schools to give advice on how this would work.

Chelsea Choto is the Regional ISSU Officer for Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim. She believes that a blanket ban will not work for the many students with additional needs who rely on their phones:
