Three Strokestown students hope to raise a massive €50,000 euro for children's cancer support as a result of their work on restoring a vintage tractor.

Jack Beirne, Andrew Jordan, and Mark Rogers, from Scoil Mhuire in Strokestown, decided to buy an old tractor and refurbish it as part of their Transition Year student's enterprise programme last year.

They restored the 1956 Massey Ferguson which was bought in Ballymahon last October and then decided to raffle it for children's cancer as a nod to classmate Jack who battled childhood cancer for three years when he was younger.

Andrew Jordan says they've been hugely surprised at the response to the raffle and now have ambitions to reach the €50,000 mark before ticket selling closes at midnight on Thursday.
