Leitrim County Council could be set to propose Maria Steen as a presidential candidate this afternoon.
She needs four local authorities, or 20 Oireachtas members, to support her to get on the ballot paper.
Three councillors - Fianna Fáil's Mary Bohan and Justin Warnock along with independent Irene Guckian Rabbitte - have proposed that Ms Steen receive a nomination.
A decision on the proposal will be decided at a meeting at Áras an Chontae at 2pm.
