Speeding at schools now a major problem, says local councillor

Cllr Domnick Connolly was speaking after serious safety concerns were raised at a school near Ballinasloe this week.

The Cathaoirleach of Athlone Municipal District says speeding near schools has become a major problem in Roscommon. Cllr Domnick Connolly was speaking after serious safety concerns were raised at a school near Ballinasloe this week. Monday's meeting of the Municipal District heard parents were concerned with the lack of adequate parking at Newtown National School. Similar issues were raised at Mount Talbot National School and other schools in the area.

Councillors say the current situation is putting children at risk during drop off and collection times. Cllr Domnick Connolly says driver behaviour around schools is not helping the matter:
