A special event will take place this evening to acknowledge volunteers at St Mel's Cathedral in Longford. It starts at 7 o'clock at The Crypt in the cathedral as a thank you to ushers, Eucharistic ministers, readers and other volunteers. The event is being organised by the Pastoral Council and will include an address by Bishop Paul Connell. Secretary of the Pastoral Council, Paula Oates, says it's important to acknowledge those who play a key role in the church:
