Daniel Ennis has won the Dublin Central by-election for the Social Democrats.

Social Democrats candidate Daniel Ennis secured a decisive victory in the Dublin Central by-election.

The Dublin City councillor and former League of Ireland footballer topped the poll on the first count and comfortably won the seat with transfers from across the political spectrum.

Meanwhile, it was a disappointing night for Fianna Fáil.
Their candidate, John Stephens, recorded the party’s worst-ever result in a by-election.
The party has had its worst result ever in the Dublin Central constituency with John Stephens finishing second-last in the bye-election.
In Galway West Cillian Keane looks set to fall short.

Jim O'Callaghan and James Lawless have openly said they have leadership ambitions.
Micheál Martin says the party will need strong figures in the future.
