Six local tourism projects have been awarded funding under Fáilte Ireland's Regenerative Tourism and Placemaking Scheme. The scheme is part of the EU Just Transition Fund programme which is co-funded by the Government and the European Union. Roscommon County Council received the biggest funding allocation with over €1m going towards the planning and design of a large-scale multifaceted project on the Hodson Bay waterfront area. Baysports which is also based at Hodson Bay in Co. Roscommon have received over €192,000 for the expansion of kayaks, and introduction of e-bikes and e-pedal boats.
Viking Tours Ireland which is based in Athlone will receive close to €300,000 for the extension of the vessel's length, installation of a bike rack and marine waste holding tank. Three projects in Co. Longford will also receive funding from the scheme. Killashee Eco Lodge Limited have been allocated €210,000 for the development of self-catering accommodation and the installation of a thermal suite. Elsewhere, Ballymahon Cycles will receive almost €65,000 for the expansion of bicycle stock whilst Firecracker Sauna Limited have been allocated over €19,000 for the development of wood-fired sauna on the banks of Lough Leebeen in Aughnacliffe.
