Shannonside TD warns public to beware of increased thefts of dogs in recent weeks.

Sinn Fein Justice Spokesperson Martin Kenny says dog owners need to take warnings about increased dog thefts seriously.

The Sligo /Leitrim TD says gardai have confirmed there's been a significant increase in the theft of dogs across the country over the past few months.

Deputy Kenny says the cruelty of this activity to the dogs and to the families left heartbroken, is hard to quantify.

He says it's not advisable to leave the family pet out in the yard if no one is at home, and people should also be vigilant about strangers taking an interest in the pets….
