Farmers living by the Shannon Callows are growing anxious they could be facing unseasonal flooding unless urgent action is taken.
Water levels on the River Shannon are currently below their traditional levels for this time of year after a particularly dry July .
However, farmers are worried that if there is a a break in the weather they will have no way to reduce the level of the water themselves.
Management of the level of River Shannon is overseen by a number of bodies including the OPW, the ESB and Waterways Ireland.
Pat Murphy is the IFA chair for Connacht.
He claims that farmers living by the river are worried what they will do if it rises unexpectedly
"Farmers have no control over the water levels nor do we have direct access for control," said Mr Murphy.
"Water levels are controlled by Waterways Ireland and the Office of Public Works (OPW).
"When you are not in control, the people in charge might not be accessible."
