The funeral of former TD and Co. Roscommon resident Seán Sherwin took place earlier this morning.
The Rooskey native was a Fianna Fáil TD between 1970 and 1973, and also served as the party's national organiser.
He died peacefully at his home in Rooskey last Wednesday, while aged in his late 70s.
His funeral mass took place in Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Ballyfermot, Co. Dublin.
The national flag was the first gift that was brought to the altar.
Father Adrian Egan, who was celebrating the mass, says it represents his "great pride and love for his country and in serving his community."
