Senator calls for footpath to be developed to link two Roscommon villages

The distance is around 1km between both areas.

Roscommon County Council is being urged to consider developing a footpath to link two growing villages.

Senator Eugene Murphy is calling for funding to be provided to carry out a feasibility study to link Cloontuskert and Ballyleague.

He believes that with growing populations in both areas, and the shared Bord na Mona heritage between the areas, a fully lit pathway would be a major asset to the area.

The Fianna Fail representative believes there is already scope to develop a footpath quite easily along the route :

“Very little would have to be done. There is quite a good green margin there, you might have to remove some hedging with the cooperation of landowners of course and maybe put in a  timber fence.

But actually it wouldn’t take a lot of  work, I don’t see any need to buy any land and by the way,  you come from the Cloontuskert side or the Ballyleague side, there is a lot of ribbon development so already there is a place there where a footpath could be constructed very easily.”
