A woman has died and a second seriously injured in a road crash in Co. Roscommon. The collision between an SUV and a truck happened on the N5 at Scramoge at around 5pm yesterday evening. A woman in her 80's who was a passenger in the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver - a woman aged in her 70's - was airlifted to hospital in Galway and is being treated for serious injuries.
A section of the N5 remains closed this morning. Any road users who may have camera footage of the area between 4:45pm and 5:15pm are asked to make it available to Gardai. Local Independent Councillor Valerie Byrne says it's heartbreaking news:
