The Seanad has heard calls for the Athlone to Boyle road to be upgraded before another tragedy takes place.
Senator Gareth Scahill raised serious concerns about the N61 in the Seanad yesterday.
He wants the road to be reclassified as a national primary route, as Roscommon County Council wants.
