Scheme for refurbishing derelict homes being 'exploited' - Leitrim councillor

It's claimed the Croí Cónaithe grant scheme is being exploited.

The grant provides up to €70,000 for the refurbishment of vacant and derelict properties.

This assists in bringing them back into residential use and ensure the existing housing stock is used to the fullest extent possible.

It's felt the grant is suitable for those hoping to secure their first home.

However, individuals are said to be buying properties with no connection to the area in question.

Local Cllr Cormac Flynn says while the scheme has its benefits, he has concerns:
