The scene of a fatal house fire in Co. Roscommon remains sealed off this morning as Gardaí continue their investigations.
Emergency services responded to reports of an explosion at The Oaks housing estate in Frenchpark last night.
Fire units from Ballaghaderreen and Boyle Fire Stations were alerted to the incident which occurred in The Oaks housing estate on the Boyle Road in Frenchpark yesterday evening.
Over twenty personnel from both units responded to the incident after receiving an emergency call at 7:14pm.
The fire was brought under control but a man lost his life in the blaze.
The body has since been removed from the house and taken to University Hospital Galway for a post-mortem exam.
The site is currently being technically examined by Gardaí and has been made safe, while a number of adjoining properties were damaged as a result of the fire.
Specialist excavation equipment was used at the scene to assist in emergency operations, which were conducted by members of the Fire Service, An Garda Síochána and the National Ambulance Service.
Gardai are currently investigating the cause of the fire, while it is understood there were reports of an explosion at the scene immediately prior to the outbreak of the fire.
