The way in which state bodies conduct public consultations may have to be adjusted after multiple projects have been delayed by local opposition.
That's the view of the Minster for Rural Regeneration and Development, Dara Calleary after a number of public realm works in the region have seen major public push back.
In the case of Ballaghaderreen, local residents and business owners are angry at a €4.5 million plan, which would see 47 car-parking spaces removed from the town.
Protests have been held on weekday mornings for the past number of weeks.
Similar push backs have been seen in Athlone, Mohill and Longford Town.
Speaking in Leitrim this week, Minister Calleary said public consultation is vital at the beginning of public projects, and he would like to see more engagement.
