The funeral Mass of a Roscommon woman who died in a Galway crash has heard she made a 'massive contribution to society'.
Kathleen Cunningham has also been remembered as a woman of 'deep faith', who spent the final day of her life at Knock Shrine.
The 80-year-old, who lived in Toomard, Newbridge, Co Galway, was originally from Tibohine, outside Ballaghaderreen.
She was driving her car in Eyrecourt, Co Galway, last Saturday night at around 8.15 when it crashed.
No other vehicle was involved.
She's deeply missed by her children, David and Catriona, and predeceased by her husband Mattie.
Her funeral Mass in St Patrick's Church in Newbridge today heard she was a woman of deep faith.
This was symbolised by two gifts, her rosary beads and prayer book, brought to the altar by her two grandsons.
Fr Louis Lohan remembered her devotion to religion, how she was a Eucharistic minister, watched the religious channel EWTN, and spent the final day of her life in Knock.
He said she was an extremely talented woman, who made a massive contribution to society.
He said family was very important to her and that she was a wonderful mother.
He also thanked the emergency services who came to the scene of the crash last Saturday night.
Her daughter, Catriona, remembered how her mother was the second eldest of her family in Tibohine.
She said, when she left school at 14, she worked in the post office, firstly in Ballaghaderreen, then in Dublin and later in Tourmakeady, Co Mayo, where she spent many happy years.
She remembered how she met her husband-to-be in a dance hall and, after a short courtship, they married and moved to Newbridge.
She said she and her brother grew up in a home full of creativity and love.
She said, through life's up and downs, her faith was her one true constant, which she passed on to her children and grandchildren.
Kathleen was buried after Mass in Killyan cemetery nearby.
