Roscommon IFA Chair says any cap on suckler herd is unacceptable

The issue is causing a lot of anger among farmers who say it will wipe out several in the sector if it goes ahead

A proposal to put a cap on Ireland's suckler herd is being strenuously opposed by the IFA.

The Department of Agriculture is currently engaging in online public consultations with the sector on the new draft CAP proposals to be submitted to the EU from Ireland.

The consultations themselves are being described as hugely frustrating with limited opportunity for contributions from participants.
