Roscommon Roads Policing units are highlighting the danger of defective tyres following a stop in North Roscommon this week.
Local Gardaí conducting a checkpoint near Boyle noticed a vehicle with dangerously worn tyres yesterday. Bald tyres can drastically increase the chance of a road collision due to their lack of grip on the road. Those found with defective tyres face a fixed charge notice and two penalty points. Elsewhere in the country, Roscommon Gardaí seized a vehicle near Athleague following a checkpoint. One car that passed through the checkpoint was found to have no insurance disc displayed.
Upon investigation, the driver was found to have no valid insurance, leading Gardaí to seize the vehicle and issue a fine.
