Independent councillor Tom Crosby, however, doesn't believe the figures show the full extent of costs to Roscommon County Council. He says in previous years it cost over €500,000 to tackle illegal dumping once salaries for litter wardens and outdoor staff were taken into account. Cllr Crosby said dumping was a 'scourge' on the Roscommon countryside and wants fines to be increased. He's called on the local authority to clarify its spending on the issue:
