The boss of Roscommon County Council is denying lives are at risk in Castlerea because of the lack of a fire station. The station closed eight years ago and there have been repeated calls for it to be reopened.

Fire cover in Co Roscommon is provided by stations in Ballaghaderreen, Boyle, Castlerea, Elphin, Roscommon and Strokestown.  Council chief executive Shane Tiernan is rejecting calls to reopen the Castlerea base:
