A coroner paid a moving tribute to his mother at a sitting of Roscommon Coroner’s Court today.
She died peacefully at the age of 96.
Nancy O’Connor was a popular woman who lived on the Convent Road in Ballaghaderreen for many years.
She died in Galway University Hospital on January 25th.
Her husband, P Desmond O’Connor, was the long-time coroner for Co Roscommon before he died in 2023.
Their son, Brian, now holds the role and he oversaw an inquest at Roscommon coroner’s court in Ballaghaderreen this morning.
Before opening the inquest, he paid tribute to his late mother.
He said she was a woman with great fortitude, particularly since his father died three years ago.
Brian noted how his father has the distinction of being the longest serving coroner in the history of the state.
Brian says he has a lot to be thankful for, as they both lived long lives, and they are eternally reunited again.
"May they rest in peace," he concluded.
