The Minister of State for Rural and Community Development has visited the Shannonside region today for a major announcement. Minister Jerry Buttimer, who's also the Minister of State for Transport visited Ballinamore's Island Theatre in county Leitrim. The Island Theatre has been announced as one of the recipients of the Community Services Programme Funding for 2026. It gives financial support to not-for-profit community companies and co-operatives to help with the cost of hiring staff. It's understood that up to three roles will be created in Ballinamore. Tom Burns, Director of Ballinamore Community Hall and The Island Theatre believes the role of volunteers has and will continue to be central to the success of the facility:
