The number of people fined for holding a mobile phone while driving in the Shannonside region increased by nearly 10 per cent last year.
Over 1,600 people were caught by gardaí.
Just under 22,000 people around the country were fined for holding a mobile phone while driving last year.
That's an increase of nearly 15 per cent on 2023.
There were also a significant increase in this offence in the Shannonside region.
1,617 were fined for the offence locally - up just under 10 per cent on 1,475 in 2023.
That includes 1,317 in Roscommon, Longford and Mayo - and 300 in Leitrim and Sligo.
The figures were released by Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan in response to a parliamentary question.
