Restaurants Association says lower VAT rate must be restored

Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe previously said the full year cost of implementing the rate would be up to a billion euro.

It's feared that the Government's failure to reinstate the 9 per cent VAT rate for the hospitality sector will have detrimental effects in the Shannonside region. It's reported that the coalition is now considering not implementing the measure until the middle of next year to reduce the immediate cost.

The Restaurants Association of Ireland said it rejects some recent commentary and claims questioning the desirability of restoring the rate. Association CEO, Adrian Cummins says the move to 9 per cent makes sense:
