A new report has found five boil and restriction water notices were issued in the Shannonside region in 2025. It's part of the Environmental Protection Agency's Drinking Water Quality in Public Supplies publication. A boil water notice or water restriction notice can then be imposed by Uisce Éireann as a result of that consultation. The majority of boil water notices in place last year related to inadequate disinfection. Locally, four were issued in county Roscommon and one in Longford.
Three of these took place at the Castlerea PWS with one power outage and two turbidities. A power outage was also recorded at Boyle regional. Cryptosporidium was recorded at Granard. Of the 66 boil water notices issued last year, nine were associated with Storm Éowyn, while 11 supplies were subject to more than one boil water notice across the year.
