Rents soared by 8pc in Leitrim in one year

They rose by 3.7 per cent in Co Roscommon in the 12-month period to this March.

Rents rose by 8.3 per cent in Co Leitrim in the space of a year, according to a new report from daft.ie.

They also rose by 3.7 per cent in Co Roscommon in the 12-month period to this March.

The increase in Co Longford was 3.3 per cent.

The typical open-market rent of a three-bedroom house in Co Leitrim in the first three months of this year was €1,307, and €1,527 in Roscommon, and €1,511 in Longford.

Professor of Economics at Trinity College Dublin and author of the report, Ronan Lyons says new rental control rules, which came into effect on the 1st of March, are likely a factor:
