Renewed appeal for information following fatal Athlone collision

The motorcyclist died as a result of the collision in the early hours of Wednesday morning

Gardaí are continuing to investigate a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision involving a motorcycle that occurred around 2:20am on Wednesday of this week at the Kilmartins Roundabout area on the Dublin Road in Athlone, County Westmeath.

 

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. He's been named locally as Seamus McCormack from Garrycastle, Athlone.

The road was closed for a time in order for a technical examination to be conducted by Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened. Gardaí are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

 

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R446 between Athlone and Moate on Wednesday 24th May 2023 between 1:45am and 2:30am as well as in the area of the Kilmartins Roundabout are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
