Longford County Council's refusal of planning permission for a residential development in the town has been upheld by higher planning authority.
Double Visas Investments Limited had applied for the change of use of the existing vacant and unfinished restaurant and retail units on Bridge Street, opposite the cinema.
Plans had called for three residential duplex apartments made up of one two-bed and three three-bed apartments.
County planners refused the plans as they did not conform with the county development plan and citing that the loss of the commercial units would be contrary to the commercial strategy for the town.
An Bord Pleanála heard the case but has not refused the appeal and upheld the decision of Longford County Council.
