A Roscommon woman is currently being detained in Dubai and banned from leaving the country, the Dáil has been told. The case was raised this afternoon by Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald. 28 year old Tori Towey has worked as a flight attendant in the UAE since last year.
Deputy McDonald said the Roscommon woman has been the victim of domestic violence. She told the Dáil that Tori now faces charges in Dubai of attempted suicide and the abuse of alcohol. The Sinn Féin leader also said the system in Dubai chose to detain her instead of protecting women:
