Plans to house refugees in Dromahair postponed

The village had seen protests and blockades in recent weeks with locals highlighting an existing lack of services in the region and worries over the housing of 75 men locally.

The Department of Integration has confirmed that no refugees will be accommodated at a former hotel in Leitrim until after Christmas. Local's in Dromahair have raised concerns over the placement of  asylum seekers at the Abbey Manor Hotel. The village had seen protests and blockades in recent weeks with locals highlighting an existing lack of services in the region and worries over the housing of the men locally.

Crowds gathered in the town this afternoon to highlight the issue, with the Department of Integration informing locals of the decision to postpone the housing of refugees until after Christmas. Fiona McPadden, spokesperson for the Dromahair Concerned Citizens Group told Shannonside FM News that the sudden decision has surprised locals:
