Plans are progressing to redevelop a popular south Leitrim hotel into a modern care facility. The Leitrim Observer is reporting the Lough Allen Hotel in Drumshanbo is part of a proposal which includes a 60-bed nursing home along with retirement and independent living units.
It has been closed since 2024 and was most recently used as accommodation for those fleeing the war in Ukraine. Local Cllr Enda McGloin says the demand for nursing home places locally is there:
