Plans are being explored around the possibility of housing refugees at a well known bar and guesthouse in Athlone.
Stephen Groarke has applied to An Bord Pleanála in relation to Shine's Guesthouse & Bar at Ballylough in the town.
The application seeks to avail of a planning exemption in order to offer the accommodation.

A Class 20F exemption allows for temporary changes of use in certain structures to accommodate those seeking International Protection.
The application was lodged at the end of May and the higher planning authority will issue a decision in the coming months.
