Controversial plans for 10 wind turbines in Ballaghaderreen are set to be lodged with An Coimisiún Pleanála.
The developer is already in talks with the planning body.
Renewable energy firm Statkraft is planning this wind farm for several townlands just northwest of Ballaghaderreen, close to the Mayo border.
They include Islandmore - and the project would be called Islandmore Wind Farm.
It would include 10 turbines between 150 and 185 metres tall.
Statkraft says there'd be a community benefit fund of around a quarter of a million euro a year for 15 years.
Commercial rates of around 1 million euro a year would be paid to Roscommon County Council.
The developer started engaging in pre-application consultation with An Coimisiún Pleanála two weeks ago - which normally precedes a planning application being made.
Some locals plan on objecting to it, saying it would completely dominate the landscape of the town- with some of the turbines 64 metres taller than the Spire in Dublin.
