Planning permission has been refused for a battery energy storage system in west Roscommon. Grid System Services Ltd had applied for a 10-year permission to develop the facility at Ballyoughter in Ballaghaderreen. The development would have consisted of 44 battery blocks with a projected life span of 35 years. The site compound was proposed to consist of the construction of enclosed system on a 2.3 hectare site.
Planning permission had been initially sought last November and Roscommon County Council made their decision this week. Local councillor Micheál Frain has welcomed the decision this afternoon:
