Planning permission is set to be lodged next year for the long-awaited bypass of Carrick-on-Shannon. It involves a 6-kilometre route, from the Dublin Road to the Boyle Road.

There are lengthy traffic jams every weekend in Carrick, especially on the Co Roscommon side. Joseph Gilhooly is the chief executive of Leitrim County Council - he says the bypass is progressing:
