An Bord Pleanála has overturned planning permission for a well known car dealership in Athlone following complaints by TII.
Westmeath County Council had granted planning permission to Michael Moore Car Sales for the construction of 4 new buildings at Fardrum outside Athlone Town.
The buildings included a single and partial two storey motor vehicle service and sales facilities and 2 detached single storey ancillary buildings.
The application also included the construction of an access road off the N62, free standing signage and flagpoles, and on-grade parking.
Westmeath county planners gave the go ahead last year with 14 conditions attached, including a developer fee of just under 89-thousand euro.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland lodged an appeal to the higher planning authority following the award of permission.
They stated that the development has the potential to compromise the safety and efficiency of the national road network with the proposed access onto the N62.
An Bord Pleanála overturned the permission due to concerns on the potential impact that waste water from the proposed car washing facilities could have on the local environment.
