Planning permission has been lodged for accessibility improvements in Castlerea for people with limited mobility. Castlerea Town Trust has lodged the plans seeking to convert the existing steps between the street and the river path on Main Street to a 21 metre long ramp. It's also proposed to construct a 29 metre long metal cantilever meeting area on the riverbank, east of the existing steps and path and three new public benches would also be developed.
According to the planning application, approximately 148 metre of the riverside path would be reprofiled and finished with an anti-skid surface to prevent slips. Roscommon County Planners will decide on the application in July.
