People travelling abroad this summer are being advised to get passport applications in early, as staff in the Passports Office deal with an unprecedented demand.
1.7 million passport applications are expected to be made in total this year.
Eoghan Corry, editor of Air and Travel magazine, says there are currently 200,000 passport applications in the system at present:
