The provider is adding more security patrols to trains to keep passengers safe.

Passengers snorting powder on a service which includes stops in the Shannonside region was one more than one thousand 100 anti social behaviour texts received by Irish Rail last year.

Other incidents recorded in 2025 according to The Irish Times include young people inhaling laughing gas.
Spokesperson Jane Cregan has highlighted the importance of reporting incidents.

The Galway to Dublin route, which has stops in Ballinasloe and Athlone had a 9 per cent growth in 2025.
An 8 per cent increase was reported on the line Westport to Dublin which has stops in Castlerea, Roscommon and Athlone.

While Sligo to Dublin, which includes Boyle, Carrick, Dromod, Longford and Edgeworthstown recorded a 7 per cent increase.
