Over 800 crimes in the Shannonside region were committed by suspects who were bail last year.
New figures have been released by Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan.
An accused person is on bail if they’re temporarily released while awaiting trial.
Minister O’Callaghan says over 38,000 crimes around the country were committed by suspected offenders while on bail last year.
Over 900 were burglaries and more than 1,500 were domestic-abuse incidents.
837 crimes were committed by people on bail in the Shannonside region last year - 524 in Roscommon, Longford and Mayo, and 313 in Leitrim and Sligo.
In November, Senior Counsel Lorcan Staines published a report on Ireland’s bail laws, at Minister O’Callaghan’s request.
The barrister recommended 15 key reforms to strengthen the bail system.
Minister O’Callaghan says several of them are under active consideration or in progress by his department.
