There are over 7,000 recipients of jobseeker's allowance in the Shannonside Northern Sound region.
Figures were revealed earlier this week following a parliamentary question from Deputy Malcom Byrne to Minister for Social Protection, Dara Calleary.
Jobseeker's allowance is a means-tested social assistance payment for people who are unemployed, or working part-time for 3 days a week or less, and are actively seeking full-time work.
In terms of the Shannonside Northern Sound region, Cavan has the highest number of recipients at 1,745.
There are just over 1,500 in Roscommon, 1,248 receive the payment in Monaghan while there are over 1,488 and 1,098 in Longford and Leitrim respectively.
Nationally, 106,020 receive the payment.
