Silage contractors from the Shannonside region were among a crowd of 400 people who turned out at an emergency fuel crisis meeting.
A gathering took place in Portlaoise on Saturday evening to demand the reduction of the cost of diesel.
Those attending said they would be in favour of staging road blockades at Dublin airport and along the M50 in protest next week.
Midlands North-West MEP Ciaran Mullooly was at the protest and confirmed a committee has been formed to negotiate with the government and the Minister for Finance on key issues.
