Over 3,600 cars failed the NCT in the Shannonside Northern Sound region in the first month of this year.
The statistics were made available on the official NCT website.
Just over 7,000 tests were carried out in Carrick-on-Shannon, Castlerea, Longford, Cavan and Monaghan in January.
Castlerea had the highest pass rate in the region at 50.31%
That was followed by Monaghan at 49.86% and Carrick-on-Shannon at 49.10%.
Across all three centres there were 500 dangerous failures.
Carrick-on-Shannon recorded the highest amount of those at 121.
