Over thirty knives have been seized by gardaí in the Shannonside region so far this year.
According to new figures published through analysis of the gardaí's PULSE system, 18 knives were seized by gardaí in Sligo Leitrim between January and mid-August this year - with 16 knives seized by officers in Longford/Roscommon.
Between 2016 and 2020, a total of 195 knives were seized in the northwest garda division - including fifty knives last year.

In Roscommon-Longford, 187 knives were seized by gardaí - including 69 in 2019 alone.
There was a 4.7% increase in the number of knives seized between 2019-2020 (2,143 in 2019 and 2,248 in 2020).
