The Shannonside region issued Over 260 Commencement Notices in 2025.
That's one of the findings from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, which has published its monthly figures.
A Commencement Notice is a notification to a Building Control Authority that a person intends to carry out works or a Material Change of Use under the Building Regulations.
The notice must be submitted between 14 and 28 days before works begin or a change of use starts.
Once validated by the authority, works must commence on site within the 28-day period.
From January to December, there were 135 in Roscommon, 82 in Longford, while in Leitrim, there were 52.
Data shows that over 3,000 commencement notices for new homes lodged in December 2025, with a total of 16,412 homes commenced throughout 2025.
