Over 250 EV grants awarded in Shannonside region last year

An electric vehicle or EV has an electric motor that is powered by a battery which is charged by an external source of electricity.

Over 250 electric vehicle grants were handed out in the Shannonside region in 2025.

The figures come following a parliamentary question from Kerry deputy Pa Daly to Minister for Transport, Darragh O'Brien.

You may be able to get a grant from the SEAI if you buy a battery-powered electric vehicle that meets specific standards.

In total, 258 grants were issued across Longford, Leitrim, Roscommon, Cavan and Monaghan.

Cavan sees the largest amount with 150, followed by 49 in Leitrim. There was 30 in Roscommon.

Monaghan and Longford the smallest number of recipients locally with 15 and 14 respectively.
