New figures released have shown that over one thousand Ukrainian pupils are enrolled in schools in the Shannonside region. The findings come following a parliamentary question by Clare TD, Cathal Crowe to Minister for Education Hildegarde Naughton on the floor of the Dáil. As of the 22nd of January, county Longford is home to the third lowest number of primary school students nationally with 131.
248 Ukrainian pupils are enrolled in Roscommon primary schools, while in Leitrim, the figure is 261. Both Roscommon and Longford were among the lowest in terms of post-primary enrollments. 103 students are in Longford with 124 in Roscommon post-primary education. Similarly to primary schools, Leitrim sees the highest number locally in terms of post-primary with 189 the county's total.
